  • Trapping the ball
  • Controlling the tempo
  • 2-2-1 Variations

Description

Coach Moore emphasizes three points for the on-ball defender - pressure, force and contain the ball. The second line is taught the game of cat and mouse and to trap the ball when it is out of control. Coach Moore also teaches the primary and secondary traps and defending ball reversal by keeping a box alignment. There is a retreat version of the press to slow down a fast-breaking team and Coach Moore also shares how to take a great point guard out of the game with the press.

Long-time UConn Assistant and current Quinnipiac Head Coach Tom Moore teaches a 2-2-1 press that can be used to control tempo or force turnovers. This is one of the finest teaching clinics on the 2-2-1 Press we've ever seen.

The goal of this course is to give you concepts and ideas successfully used by other coaches. If you face any zone or a special type of defense, be prepared for it by teaching some of these plays. Hopefully, you got some ideas to help your team win more games and make you a better coach.

Tom Moore is an Assistant Head Coach at the University of Connecticut. This is his second stint at UConn after previously serving as an assistant from 1994 to 2007 under Huskies' Hall of Fame and three-time NCAA Championship coach, Jim Calhoun.
