This course is suitable whether you're single, married, separated, happy, unhappy, trying to resolve your issues or just looking for ways to add sparkle. You can do it on your own, or together. In my counselling sessions I see people after they complete blocks, to see how they have got on and guide them along their way, but you don't have to do that at all. In fact, this course should give you plenty of self-evident ways to freshly understand how to make a good and lasting relationship.
Adam and Eve are a fictional couple, married in modern times. We will see how they face many challenges, many ups and downs. We will see how they falter and fail, and then how they learn how to conquer difficulties smartly and elegantly.
You will recognise many of their challenges as similar to your own. The course has videos, articles, assignments and exercises, all designed to help you to become more aware of your strengths, and how to give each other what you really need.
We all want to feel appreciated, understood, and to feel liberated and loved. It's funny how these things can seem so difficult to find. It turns out that simply wanting it is not enough. We all can learn skills that help us bring the best out from our partners and ourselves, to finally do justice to this mission: to be there for one another.
Think of this course as a relaxed friend who is full of little insights on how to make your relationship happier. It is full of tips and techniques.
No need to learn all of it. Even if you learn just 10% of the stuff here, it will make a positive impact on your happiness.
You can do it on your own, or you can both embark on it together. It's designed to work either way. If you're single, it even works as a preparation for getting married. If you're divorced, it helps you understand how to get closure and heal going forward.
Think of it as a secret bank of tips to help you learn all those things that help you to understand, and be understood, by the one person in your life you are with. Your partner.
It's set up as a number of blocks. Each block has little video clips, stories and situations, which you will use to explore some typical issue in your relationship. You will be asked to reflect on many things, because through your own reflections you will gain many new and fresh insights on all of the things that matter:
How to manage each other's emotions
What to say and how to say it
How to help them understand you, and how to make them feel understood
How to seek their support in a way that makes it easy for them to give it
How to resolve difference and indeed celebrate them rather than end up in conflict
How to be appreciative of their individual quirks, faults and mannerisms
How to deal with their work, their friends, or each other's wider families
How to give, and get, what each other need
Specific guidance on sex, alone time, rest and recreation
Clear 'cheat tables' to help you translate what they really mean when you communicate
Forging a higher path together, united in spiritual and purposeful ways
It's easy and intuitive to learn, and the effects start to show immediately. Doing it for an hour a day, it should take about 4 to 8 weeks.
If you're motivated, and you have goodwill, then there is always time, always a chance, to make things happier.
May you find the contentment and understanding that you deserve.
