The success of implant-supported restorations is measured not only by the degree of osseointegration of the implants, but also by how well the restorations blend with the supporting tissues. Adequate management of the peri-implant soft-tissue depends on several factors including abutment design, abutment material, implant-abutment connection, and mode of the retention of the abutment to different restorative materials. In this course, the role and types of abutments will be discussed to facilitate functional and aesthetic successful outcomes in everyday dental practice.
