(Oxford) Combined Diploma : Art Therapy and Psychology

What You Will Learn!

  • Different mental illnesses
  • How Art Therapy may reduce causes and symptoms
  • By doing the exercises - more about yourself
  • How learning does not necessarily mean you cannot have fun!

Description

Remember: This course includes a manual especially written for October 2023.

This is quite a long course.

Remember that this course is:

  • Lectures on Art Therapy and Psychology (of course)

  • An Art Therapy workbook

  • Art Therapy Exercises

  • Educational Announcements about Art Therapy

  • Discussions in the Q/A about the Art, Art Therapy and other exercises

In other words not JUST a bunch of lectures on Art Therapy!

Section 1 includes:

  • The relationship between Art Therapy and Psychology

  • Stress reduction and relaxation

  • Processing Trauma and Grief

  • Promoting emotional resilience

  • Building self esteem and confidence

  • The integrative approach

  • Cultural and symbolic significance

  • Children and Art Therapy

Section 2 includes:

Art Therapy is explained and then a number of mental illnesses are explored:

  • Eating disorder

  • Paranoia

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Bipolar Affective Disorder

  • PTSD

  • OCD

(Note: this course should not be seen as 'treatment' rather 'exploration of the possible impact of Art Therapy'. Always consult a medical professional.)

We look at how Art Therapy can be of help to those who have been diagnosed as suffering from such illnesses. But remember: Art Therapy (especially on an online course) is not a diagnostic tool. It is used to explore causes and reduce symptoms.

Ideally such therapeutic activities are carried out by a qualified, experience Art Therapist.

Throughout the course the emphasis is on WORK (this is a course, after all) and DISCUSSION - and having some fun along the way!

Please note also that lectures are added to the course on a fairly regular basis - so make sure you keep checking on your own progress (you have Lifetime Access) but also the resources available. Do not RUSH the course. Ideally you would watch a lecture, try the art therapy exercise, consider your thoughts during the process and then post in the Q/A. Reflective questions are often supplied with the exercise.

Also make sure you often check the Educational Announcements.

Note: A new section was added in December 2022 explaining what could be done with the course + your own Art work + the comments of others + reflections.

Who Should Attend!

  • All interested in improving wellbeing
  • Those curious about the science behind Art Therapy
