This course aim to teach you ways to improve your communication skills so that your are able to better express yourself and to make reasonable requests more easily. The benefits of being more assertive is that you can express your needs more clearly reducing the risk of offending people. You learn skills such as nine specific assertiveness skills, how to say no, how to identify your rights, how to use visualisation skills in order to practice techniques. In addition, the course covers how to give and receive compliments. The course uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques so that you understand how your thinking patterns influence your behaviour and how to challenge negative thoughts. The course covers theory from transactional analysis that gives you a model for assertiveness and helps you to identify the difference between aggressive, passive and assertive behaviour. By understanding each of these behaviours, you are then more able to adapt your communication style in order to make the best impression. In addition, how to cope with criticism is included so that you are more able to defend yourself in difficult situations. The final module focussing on putting your new skills together so that you can implement them at either work or with other relationships.
