Description

Yoruba is a wonderful tribe, with beautiful and rich cultural heritage. Folklore (translated to “Alo” in Yoruba Language) is a memorable, interesting and unique stories which aged and elderly people use to enlighten and disseminate knowledge to younger ones.

There are two (2) major types of Folklores in Yoruba Land, namely:

(a) Descriptive Folklore (Alo Apamo)

(b) Narrative Folklore (Alo Apagbe)

Narrative Folklore is the most interesting out of the two above. It features a rich story, which sometimes includes rhymes and choruses. This type of folklore is often rendered when the night falls. The younger ones would have sat round the elderly/aged person that will be leading the folklore.

This is a digital version of evergreen Yoruba Folklore (Alo Apagbe Ile Yoruba). It contains tons amusing stories. This story is directly rendered by a Native Yoruba speaker that knows the rudiment of Yoruba Folklore itself.

Interesting folklores in this series include:

1) Tortoise and Hot Porridge (Ijapa ati Asaro Gbigbona)

2) Tortoise and Hawk (Ijapa ati Eiye Asa)

3) Tortoise, Hen and the Hawk (Ijapa, Adie ati Asa)

4) Tortoise, Shew and the Squirrel (Ijapa, Asin ati Okere)

Moreover, each story has been subtitled in English Language to enable those that do not understand Yoruba Language an opportunity to follow the story keenly. It is full of fun, information and entertainment! Also, there’s a glossary section at the end of the course.
