The course aims to explore the basic tenets and principles that underline the various practices within the field of counselling and therapy. It explores a variety of approaches and looks at the philosophy, methods used and resultant counselling relationship in each case. Some reference to the historical and scientific background to these approaches is made and the student will have the opportunity to reflect on their own thoughts and feelings in relation to this. Power point video presentations are used throughout the course and downloadable print outs are provided. Exercises and quizzes to test your knowledge are scattered throughout the course and you can learn as quickly or as slowly as you'd like. Once you have downloaded the course, it is yours for life. 10 lectures covering the three basic approaches and their subsequent branches, enable the student to develop their knowledge and understanding and broaden their learning by testing that knowledge throughout the course. A certificate in counselling theory can be used towards a diploma in counselling and can also show potential employers and educators an academic ability.
