Description

Come and explore the intersections between mathematics and dance. In this 6-video course, Miranda will guide you through important foundational dance lessons. This workshop is designed to demonstrate the simplicity and effectiveness of using dance in education.

The lessons focus on:

  • Dance as a universal language

  • How to develop movement vocabulary

  • How to introduce mathematical themes through movement

  • How to generate choreography from mathematics

  • How to scale from the very simple introductory lessons to exercises suitable for high school students.

Miranda focuses on six introductory lessons. Each lesson establishes fundamental elements of her Dance Equations program. After this workshop, you will have clear ideas of how math and dance connect and you will walk away with new lesson ideas. There is no dance experience necessary but please come prepared to move. You will need comfortable clothing, a pen and paper for note-taking, and space around your computer to dance. This class is suitable for school teachers, professionals who teach teachers, and homeschool parents and groups. It is not grade-focused, Miranda demonstrates the spectrum of math dance education and focuses on dance as an effective tool to teach mathematics to various grades. She hopes that dance with become another teaching tool in your teacher toolbox and that this course will inspire you to use more dance in the classroom.

The 7th lesson and bonus video is a lesson example. In this additional lesson, I teach ratios through the understanding of the harmonic series. Please feel free to send me feedback in regard to this course.
