Class Description
What the class is about
This course is the second installment of my Trend Forecasting Series. It will build on the skills and information learned in my previous forecasting class (you can check out Forecasting 1 before this and forecast 3 as well). Students will take the lessons learned and how to apply them to build a trend forecasting presentation as well as learn about the different types of presentations that are used in the industry.
A few of the skills students will learn
Students will learn how to take your research, develop them into groups of key trend ideas and then showcase those concepts through a solid presentation. Students will also learn about the different types of trend meetings, types of trend reports and types of presentations that are likely to happen in the industry. Finally, students will get an overview of the design and layout function of the report and will create a 6 page trend presentation for their class project using the information they learned throughout the class.
An overview of the class project
For your class project, we will be taking your trend research to the next level by creating a 6 page trend presentation. Students will find a theme and work it into a full presentation. The goal is to take your trend knowledge to the next level. You will begin with inspiration from a theme that you feel is emerging and you will complete research around that theme. You should ask yourself where you think the trend is originating, what is impacting it now and where do you see it going?
The 6 page layout will include the following:
Mood board page
Research and reference page
Materials and details page
Print and pattern page
Styling Page
Product Page
Who the class is geared toward or if any prior knowledge or experience is required
This class is geared towards beginners. You don’t need any prior experience in the fashion industry, but an interest in fashion and trends would be helpful! I would suggest you take my first Fashion Trends course, though as this is the perfect add on, as it builds on the information you learned in that class. The information outlined in the lessons are meant to be informative and offer a new perspective on the fashion and retail industries and give you an opportunity to create a project that allows you to apply the skills you have learned.
Some very basic technical abilities will be needed to use the Canva template provided for the class project. Canva is a very intuitive online platform/software and is easy to use. To make things even simpler, I’ve created a template for the class project that only requires you to update text and drag and drop images.
You can access the class project template in the course resources.
