  • applications of microscopes in forensics

Description

This course covers all the important aspects of forensic microscopy. Forensic microscopy is a field of microscopy which deals with application of microscopes for the purpose of examination of evidence helping in investigation. many crime scenes contain trace evidences which includes paint and glass fragments, drugs, tool marks, gun shot residues which can be visualized and analyzed with the help of microscope. Striation marks on bullet can also be compared and examined with the help of microscope which gives the examiner lead to the investigation. The techniques of microscopes cane be utilized effectively for solving the crime. Microscopes can also be used to study bone, tissues or other remains to find out the cause of death.

The lectures given in this course consists detailed instrumentation and working of each type of microscope. The diagrams are also incorporated in the lectures to make you understand the design and working of microscopes. This course consist of following topics-

  • Fundamentals of microscopy

  • Types of microscopes i.e., light microscopes and electron microscopes ( instrumentation, sample preparation, working) and its applications

  • Polarized light microscopy

  • Comparison Microscopes

  • Stereomicroscopes/ dissecting microscopes

  • Fluorescence Microscopes

  • Scanning Electron Microscopes

  • Transmission Electron Microscopes

  • Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopes

This course brings light to all the essential details of microscopes and how they are useful to examination of evidence in forensic science. At the end of this course, the students will be able to understand all the techniques of microscope and how to use it effectively for a particular type of evidence.
