This course provides a comprehensive overview of how to set up a charity.
My aim with this course is to draw on my legal experience and expertise on this topic to help demystify what is a complex and often misunderstood area. To help simply this complex topic, this course is structured as a journey, breaking down how to set up a charity, step by step:
The first step on the journey asks, 'Is my idea a charity?’ and breaks down the legal definition of a ‘charity’, as people often have a preconceived notion in their mind of what a charity is, which is usually incorrect.
The second step on the journey asks, 'Who will run my charity?' and the factors you will need to consider when making this decision, including restrictions on who can act.
The third step on the journey asks, 'How should I structure my charity?' and goes through the main charitable legal structures, which will help you decide which structure is best suited to the needs of your charity.
The fourth step on the journey asks, 'What should I name my charity?', including the distinction between main names and working names, as well as the requirements and restrictions on naming.
The final step on the journey asks, 'Do I need to register my charity?' and details the requirements for registering your charity, as not every charity can register with the Charity Commission.
This course will give you the tools you need to enable you to successfully set up a charity.
