Allergic rhinitis is a chronic respiratory disorder associated with a substantial health and psychological burden. The prevalence of allergic rhinitis particularly hay fever is on the increase and the use of medication comes with moderate to severe side effects. This has led to more people turning to complementary medicine to manage their symptoms. Acupuncture, self-acupressure and acupressure have been shown to be equal to or significantly better than medication in the management of allergic rhinitis and hay fever.
This course is suitable for the lay person who want to manage their symptoms of hay fever or allergic rhinitis with self-acupressure or healthcare professional, acupuncturist and acupressure practitioners who want to treat their patients with seasonal hay fever or allergic rhinitis. On this course you will learn how to employ methods to reduce the symptoms of allergic rhinitis and hay fever such as not hanging your bed clothes outdoor when the pollen count is high and changing your clothes when you return inside from a walk or contact with animals. You will develop an understanding of how the immune system is affected by pollen, dust and pet hair and the underlying physiological effect of acupuncture and acupressure on the immune system and how they reduce the symptoms of hay fever and allergic rhinitis. You will learn how to treat allergic rhinitis and hay fever with self-acupressure and acupressure/acupuncture, how to locate and stimulate acupressure points. The effects of each acupressure/acupuncture point are explained from an evidence-based scientific perspective so that you have a sound understanding of the physiological effect of each acupuncture point and how it will help to relieve hay fever and allergic rhinitis symptoms.
