Description

This is an original authorized course for Academic Writing Task One based on the personal long-standing teaching experience.

This course gives general overview of Writing Task One Academic Module. It consists of 10 lessons and presents information about requirements, assessment criteria, timing and question types. Each lesson provides guidance on the approach specific to each of the task types, highlights their important aspects and provides some tips and solutions how to succeed in your answer.

The aim of this course is to help students become familiar with Writing Task One, be aware of types of questions they can come across and provide them with tools, to write a correct solid response within the timeframe.  The first three lessons are dedicated to the task overview, general requirements, assessment criteria and basic structure of the answer.  In lesson four and five students will have a look at some useful techniques that help to approach the task and make their answer more organized. Generally, after watching all ten lessons students will become familiar with the all types of Writing Task One Academic Module – a line graph, a bar chart, a pie chart, a map, a table, a diagram and a two-source task.  The video lessons are supplemented with a course brochure, where students can find some additional information about Academic Writing Task One and full descriptions of the visuals mentioned during the lessons. Also, there are some exercises for further individual practice. The appendix provides an extensive lexical resource for this type of the task that is divided according to the graph category.
