Description

Welcome to our Introduction to Self-awareness course.

This is an introductory course in our Self-awareness Learning Path. You will appreciate the abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable you to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life. The aim is to enhance your knowledge on and appreciation of oneself, the need to value and promote good interpersonal skills, as well as improving the quality of decisiveness in your day to day life.

In this course, we will introduce self-awareness, personal management, understanding our thoughts, emotions and behaviours, the impact of how we look at things, we will learn how to observe self-control in any situation and, we will discuss how we interact with other people.

I'm sure you've heard the term "self-awareness," which is often used. Unfortunately, while self-awareness is critical in one's life, it is frequently misunderstood and underestimated. When we break down the term "self-awareness," we see that the first part "Self" refers to a person, an individual, or "you." The second part, "awareness" according to Wikipedia is described as, and I quote; "Awareness is the state of being conscious of something. More specifically, it is the ability to directly know and perceive, to feel, or to be cognizant of events". End of quote.

To manage your expectations, this is what you need to know as we embark on this self-awareness journey

1. You will be required to reflect a lot about your life. The process of reflection helps us to get insights through reviewing our thoughts, feelings a behaviour.

2. You will be required to journal your experiences. Writing down what you will be experiencing as you go through this process helps you to not only vent out your thoughts, feelings but also gain insights and help you to track your progress.

3. It will require you to have an open mind. A temporary suspension of your current view of things, giving room for your to consider new ideas and perspectives.

4. To be persistent and resilient when the going gets tough. Like any change process, it can be tough to confront your truth which is the essence of self-awareness.

5. Some hurtful experience might be triggered. As the ideas are presented, it may trigger past forgotten memories, which may be painful.

6. You might experience resistance, getting out of your comfort zone is never easy. Unlearning old ideas and learning new one’s can be challenge but doable.

7. Commitment in doing the presented exercise. Learning knowledge is the first step toward the right direction, practicing the learnt knowledge will get you your desired outcomes.

8. Allow the experience to be confidential for the period of the training. The idea is to avoid clouding your experience based on people’s feedback. For example, if you were to mention to a friend that you are attending a self-awareness course, feedback like, “those things don’t work” might discourage you from continuing with your learning. People who notice the positive changes in you and are interested in what you are doing, then you can share what you have learnt with them.

Once you’ve discovered how self-aware you are, I am going to show you how you can get better at it.

I will show you ways to improve and cultivate self-awareness. You will realize that if you begin to consciously practice self-awareness, you start evaluating how your values, passions, and goals fit into your current environment and emotions -- and how to align them better. You will also understand how other people view you, creating stronger, more authentic relationships with your colleagues. You will therefore become a happier and more productive individual, employee and leader, and this should help you align your current life with your passions.

Thank you and welcome to the course.
