Learn Organic Chemistry (Part II)

What You Will Learn!

  • Inductive Effect (Explained using a wide range of examples)
  • Mesomeric and Electromeric Effect (Explained with examples)
  • The Concept of Organic acids and Bases - Bronsted - Lowry, Lewis Concept, their behavior and periodic trends.
  • Practice Problems and relevant NOTES for each topic.

Description

This course begins with a discussion on different types of effects which are responsible for electron displacement in a molecule

· Inductive effect

· Mesomeric effect

· Electromeric effect

· Each of these are explained in detail with suitable examples.

· The examples of +I and -I, +M and -M and +E and -E groups are included exclusively, in connection with various effects.

· The impact of these effects on various behavioural properties of molecules are highlighted with prominent examples.

The next section of the course is structured on acids and bases of organic nature.

· The general acid-base concepts – Arrhenius, Bronsted - Lowry and Lewis Concept are explained with examples.

· The quantitative and qualitative expression which includes the strength of an acid and base are explained in the beginning.

· Later, the course primarily focuses on organic acids and bases, their properties and behaviour.

· This course includes a section highlighting the factors encompassing the stability of a conjugate base.

· The periodic trends governing acid strength is explained with significant examples.

· This course also provides a simple and easily memorizable acidity order based on the pka values.

· The chemical concepts governing this acidity order are also explained with examples.

· The course is supported by practice problems and NOTES (downloadable) at the end of each section.
