Kathak is one of the eight major forms of Indian classical dance. It is indigenous to north of India and developed under the influence of both Hindu and Muslim cultures. The origin of Kathak is traditionally attributed to the traveling bards of ancient northern India known as Kathakars or storytellers. It involves intrinsic footwork, hand gestures and facial expressions. Kathak is known to be performed as a solo dance by both men and women who portray their grace and flow with their lucid movements.
