Learn to Speak Giraffe

What You Will Learn!

  • Learn to create deeply meaningful and satisfying interactions.
  • Operate in a win-win manner.
  • Create harmonious relationships.
  • Gain greater insight into yourself and others when communicating.
  • Find common ground, even in conflict situations.

Description

Would you like your interactions to be more meaningful and deeply satisfying, leaving you and the other person more inspired, with greater clarity, and new insights?

Would you like to find the tools to move beyond the polarised conversations we experience around us?

The skills needed to create authentic, heartfelt connections with others are found in Marshall Rosenberg’s “Non-Violent Communication” (NVC), or “The Language of the Giraffe”.

In this eight part, task-based, course we focus on moving beyond what often turns out to be most problematic for NVC-learners, namely automatic judgement and an underlying, often unconscious, aspiration to manipulate situations. Thus, by committing to the tasks, you will build habits that guide you beyond these challenges to finding all-win solutions.

Course Structure

In each part of the course you will be given a task to practice throughout the week, so that you may start developing a new habit in your interactions that brings about greater authenticity, connection, and harmony.

You will also get access to a guided meditation designed to move you into a win-win frame of mind.

This course is practical and focused on transformation in areas of personal growth. It is minimal in theoretical concepts and can thus be an excellent practical companion to a deeper theoretical study of NVC.

Ideally, you would dedicate 15 minutes each week to learning about the task and then practice it while also listening daily to the relaxing guided meditation. At the end of the week you would write down your observations by answering the questions provided, and move onto the next task. Such an approach would allow to step by step build new habits of interaction and allow for a personal transformation.

If you are looking for theoretical information about NVC I recommend reading Marshall Rosenberg’s books and watching his lectures online.

If, however, you are looking for a transformation and are willing to commit to the tasks, then this may be the course you are looking for.

What You Will Learn

The eight main tasks will allow you to experience:

  • The role of empathy in conflict resolution,

  • How to use empathy with others and with yourself,

  • How to hear what is beautiful and alive in others,

  • How to replace judgement,

  • What to search for and focus on in the message of another,

  • How to build a win-win conversation,

  • How to say "thank you" in a way that connects you to the other,

  • How to make a request in giraffe.

Fun Fact:

The giraffe was chosen by Marshall Rosenberg as a representative for Non-Violent Communication because it has the largest heart of all land mammals and has an overarching perspective from which to act.
