Description

All skilled craftspeople have one thing in common, they have strong fundamental skills including measurement and marking skills. This course will help you develop your skills with a tape measure, a speed square, a chalk line, and a level. Join us to watch a few lesson videos, check your knowledge on a mini quiz, and hone your skills with one of our skills exercises.

These fundamental skills will help you in all your future construction endeavors and will also help you succeed in our more advanced classes, especially our Basic Power Saws course. The lessons include the parts and types of tape measures and how to read the marks and symbols on them. Since we are in the United States, all measurements are in Inches and Fractions – we save the metric system to our friends in Europe.

You will also learn all about the Speed Square for measuring and marking, including using this versatile tool for measuring angles.  The chalk line is next in the course, a really simple tool that you just can not live without for a few tasks. The course has a skills exercise to use the chalk line in a solo squaring exercise or grab a friend and practice really large 3-4-5 squaring exercises.  The course then finishes off with the trusty level, this is one time where bigger is better…sort of.

Join us to learn construction fundamentals, starting with the Tape Measure.
