The reason to complete this certification as a Medical Coder is that the exam tests the competencies required to perform the job. I have proven expertise in documentation review, abstract inpatient acute care encounters, coding proficiency with ICD-10 CM, ICD-10 CPT, HCPCS, Outpatient, and inpatient payment methodologies.
Expertise in assigning accurate ICD-10-CM medical codes for ICD diagnoses and CPT, HCPCS procedures performed in all settings. The CPC exam includes fill-in-the-blank and Multiple formats. Examinees must demonstrate coding ability without multiple-choice options.
Understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology required to correctly code facility services and diagnoses.
Knowledge of pharmacology to include common medications; their uses and side effects.
Understand Guidelines.
Ability to identify documentation deficiencies.
Strong ability to integrate coding and reimbursement rule changes in a timely manner.
Understanding of outpatient reimbursement methodologies (OPPS) and how it differs from IPPS.
