Once upon a time, there was a young mom working the night shift and going to school full time! She made many sacrifices to get where she wanted to be, to the mom she always dreamed of, to have the business she envisioned! It all came with a price and that price was her health!

At one point in your life you made the decision, maybe a subconscious one, to put everything you had into a goal or dream or whatever. And before you knew it, so much time had passed that it seemed nearly impossible to change the outcome. So maybe you gave up. Maybe tried and tried but nothing worked for you, so you accepted defeat and built your life around this version of yourself you no longer recognize!

Weight gain, type 2 diabetes, and cholesterol. All of my clients have at least one of these symptoms, symptoms of a less than ideal lifestyle.

My Full Story...

My life was busy and full! I had my daughter at 19. I worked a full time job in environmental services at a hospital while being a full time student. My plate was not just full, it was full and beginning to break. I continued to move through the motions and eventually graduated and started my own Massage Therapy Practice. Overnight I went from spreading myself thin in so many directions to devoting most of my time to one thing. That felt really good. I was home more. I was able to spend so much needed time with my family and friends. The storm had calmed and they sky was blue and clear!

Unfortunately, I had picked up a few bad habits to help me cope with the mountains of stress always surrounding me. Despite being in the field of wellness and wanting a healthier more natural way of life, I was a mess. My diet was crap. I was smoking more than a pack a day. I was drinking “for fun”. The bigger issue here was everyone around me was also doing these things so it was easy to deny my habits were negatively impacting my life. I had normalized my behavior and convinced myself my body could handle it. My Mindset had settled into a fixed place and I was just accepting of how things were.

By my 26th birthday I was prediabetic. I was still a smoker. I had no routine other than working. My career as a massage therapist was starting to wear on my body.

My transformation began when I watched the documentary Forks over Knives on Netflix. All the points presented in the video reminded me of the person I set out to be when I first started Massage School. I wanted to eat nutrient rich foods and leave processed foods behind. I wanted to make a difference and do my part to combat climate change. I wanted to teach people how to live healthier happier lives. Instead, I had deviated from my path and was the version of myself I did not want to be.

My changes were small at first.

I adopted a plant based lifestyle. I started running (my version of running). I was spending as much time as possible outside. Eventually I quit smoking, not an easy thing to do!!! Over a period of 18 months I worked everyday to be a little bit better than the day before! That is really what it all boils down to. Are you willing to work a little bit each day to be a better version of yourself? To be the person you set out to be so long ago? To be the person you decided just now that you want to be?
