Introduction to Power BI: Students will gain a basic understanding of what Power BI is and its role in business intelligence. They will learn about the different components of Power BI, including Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and Power BI Mobile.
Data Sources and Data Transformation: Students will learn how to connect to various data sources, such as databases, Excel files, SharePoint, and online services. They will understand how to import and transform data using Power Query Editor to clean and shape the data for analysis.
Data Modeling: Students will learn about data modeling concepts in Power BI. They will understand how to create relationships between different tables, define measures and calculated columns using DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), and create hierarchies for organizing data.
Data Visualization: Students will gain skills in creating visually appealing and interactive reports and dashboards in Power BI. They will learn how to use different types of visualizations (such as charts, tables, maps, and slicers) to present data effectively. They will also explore formatting options and best practices for designing engaging visualizations.
Power Query: Students will learn advanced techniques in Power Query for data transformation and manipulation. They will understand how to use functions, conditional statements, and other data shaping techniques to clean and prepare data for analysis.
DAX (Data Analysis Expressions): Students will gain proficiency in using DAX formulas to create calculations, measures, and calculated columns in Power BI. They will learn how to write DAX expressions for aggregating, filtering, and manipulating data to derive meaningful insights.
Interactive Reports and Dashboards: Students will learn how to create interactive reports and dashboards in Power BI. They will understand how to add interactivity through slicers, filters, and drill-through actions to enable users to explore data and gain insights.
Data Refresh and Sharing: Students will learn how to refresh data in Power BI and schedule automatic data refreshes. They will understand how to publish and share reports and dashboards with others, both within the organization and externally.
Power BI Service: Students will gain an understanding of the Power BI Service, which is the cloud-based platform for sharing and collaborating on Power BI content. They will learn how to publish reports, create workspaces, manage access and permissions, and utilize collaboration features.
Advanced Analytics and Custom Visualizations: Depending on the course, students may also learn about advanced analytics features in Power BI, such as forecasting, clustering, and sentiment analysis. They may also explore custom visualizations, where they can import and use third-party visualizations to extend the capabilities of Power BI.
By completing a Power BI course, students will develop the skills and knowledge required to analyze and visualize data effectively, create interactive reports and dashboards, and share insights with stakeholders. These skills are valuable in various roles, including data analysis, business intelligence, reporting, and decision-making.
