This course is specially designed for those who have no background knowledge of programming. The course introduces students to the basic concepts and techniques of developing programs to solve problems. It also introduces what programming is and how we can apply it in our daily lives. It could serve as a preparation for more advanced programming courses, as well as a stand-alone course for those who want to use programming in their studies or professional careers.
Among the topics covered are data types, conditional statements, operators, repetitions, testing, and debugging. We use the Scratch platform to test out your fundamental theories which are covered in the course. The scratch language and website are both block-based visual programming languages aimed at beginners as learning tools. Scratch is used as the introductory language because the creation of interesting programs is relatively easy, and skills learned can be applied to other programming languages such as Python and Java.
A basic understanding of computer programming is the goal of this course, as well as the ability to create basic computer programs for problem-solving.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to design, create and write a basic game using the Scratch platform.
