Description

Plastic waste management Rules are part of the Waste Management Rules. In India, we have Solid Waste Management Rules, Plastic Waste Management Rules, Biomedical waste Management Rules, Construction and Demolition Waste Rules, E waste Management Rules and Hazardous waste management rules. These rules are being updated to adjust with global regulations. Countries around the world have expressed their committment for Sustainable Development Goals SDG 3 - Good Health and Wellbeing. This calls for good infrastructure and strategy for waste management. In this context, rules and regulations are coming up in India to provide best possible framework for waste management at every levels of administration.

Plastic waste management rules have enabled the recyclers to register themselves as full fledged main stream unit. Though the major recycling work is done in India through the informal sector, these rules help this sector become formalised. If a recycler is aware of the rules and regulations, it will be a plus point for them to overcome the problems and gain the benefits. Similarly the manufacturers, producer, importers and brand owners must understand the rules very well to avoid penalty imposition and encourage the recycling of plastic packaging items to ensure better waste management.

EPR or Extended Producer Responsibility is also important part of these rules. Industries, importers and businessman find it difficult to grasp due to complicated guidelines. If they understand these EPR rules, they will be supporting the manufacturers of compostable plastic materials and easily evade any problem occuring due to non compliance.
