In fact, a few years ago Patrick also published a highly successful course on HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography. Patrick applies this depth of photography knowledge to his infrared photography teaching.

In The Infrared Photography Masterclass Patrick explains how a modified consumer digital camera can record radiation that humans can’t see. He explains why infrared photography is really the “mapping” of radiation intensity that humans can’t perceive to tones that humans can perceive - and he explains how that is accomplished. These are foundational topics to success with infrared photography, but are topics seldom touched on in tutorials.

The benefits of infrared photography are discussed to give you an idea of what you have to look forward to as you pursue infrared photography. The science behind infrared radiation is also discussed, and even the variety of filters used to control what portion of the radiation spectrum is allowed to reach the camera’s sensor. Understanding filtering is a key to creating unique and creative images derived from the near-infrared spectrum.

To help you visualize scenes in the amazing radiation of the near-infrared spectrum, Patrick displays many of his own photographs in the infrared spectrum to illustrate how infrared radiation behaves in various settings. Every photograph shown in the course (over 100) was made by the author himself and culled from his thousands of infrared images!

During The Infrared Photography Masterclass Patrick shares his keys to success that he has learned from his own experience in all phases of infrared photography, from camera operation to field capture to image processing. Based on Patrick’s actual and personal experience in infrared photography, the lesson “Achieving Optimum Field Captures” may be the single most important lesson of the course because it comes from actual experience, not theory!
