Description

Are you an Art Therapist? Perhaps training to be one? Perhaps you've done one - or a number - of courses in Art Therapy and wonder what it would be like to practice as a qualified Art Therapist?  Perhaps you are wondering what to do in certain situations...of certain problems came up. How would you devise art therapy exercises to deal with various situations? How would you reflect - how would your client reflect? What materials would be required? What would the instructions be?

Maybe you are thinking of running a course - a week-end, a day, a retreat - in 'therapeutic art' or even 'art used in therapy'. You want some situations for discussion; some exercises that may lead to a solution.

Perhaps you're just interested in 'art therapy and how it is used' as a whole.

If any - or all - of the above apply to you then this is the course for you!

The course goes through a series of 'Art Therapy Thought Experiments' - full details of the art therapy exercises are given. The aim is to encourage discussion - maybe with others or simply reflection within yourself. Yes, share if you wish but the main thing is to reflect.

There are specific art therapy exercises:

  • Neurographics

  • Collage

for example.

But the whole idea is to get you to THINK. What WOULD you do, suggest, carry out in such-and-such a situation. How would you deal with the questions posed?

This is very much a Do-it-yourself course as, when/if it comes down to it the exercises you do or suggest to others will be ones that you have thought about carefully (as an untrained art therapist can cause harm!) . Maybe you will have just made notes - I hope not as Art Therapy is about DOING and then reflecting.

Remember the mantra:

  • Thoughts before the process

  • Thoughts during the process

  • Thoughts after the process

  • Thoughts some time later (reflection)

The course is short enough to do in a day - but it is long enough to take several weeks. It is up to you but the suggestion - of course - is to go slowly and carefully and consider, reflect, reflect, reflect.

You are encouraged to explore these Thought Experiments. They ask a lot of questions and by doing the exercises you just may come up with some answers.
