Why a separate course on Personal Financial Planning?
We all have spent so much time learning several subjects just for passing some examinations, just for acquiring some degree or qualifications.
We all have spent time learning new skills and updating existing skills to make money and have a living.
But why only 1% to 5% are top rich and 95% are still struggling to move each month.
Why this difference?
How rich become super-rich and others always remain in the 95% category?
If you look deeper into this, you will realise that people are actually earning, their earnings are improving, their lifestyles are improving, but at some point, they get into a financial mess in their lives!
Do you know why?
It’s because nowhere personal financial management is taught. Neither your school nor college. We all will realise the need for personal financial management only when we face financial disaster. Only when we make serious financial mistakes.
Financial mistakes are like slow poisons. Neither you nor people around you will know that you are committing a financial mistake.
The reason is “we are not taught about it”
We all spend so much time learning something so that we can make money. But we never spend quality time learning how we should manage our own money. The main reason is that knowledge is not given anywhere - neither schools nor colleges.
I did my part of research to understand how this financial ignorance is affecting people and I am stunned to note 9 out of 10 gets into financial troubles because of ignorance. They didn’t know, their actions will put them into financial trouble. Their actions are very simple - like buying a mobile phone, buying a car, two-wheeler, constructing a house, taking some insurance, making some investments.
You may ask, what’s wrong with all these actions. What’s wrong with buying all these?
Nothing wrong with buying all these items.
What is important is,
-when you buy
-how do you buy
-from which source you buy.
When it comes to this part, I see uniformity in committing mistakes and it's because of these decisions, untimely decisions, using wrong funding decisions, many many individuals, thousands and thousands of individuals are getting into financial trouble.
Pity is - Nobody told them that it is not the right way to acquire things in life - rather everyone around them, appreciated & congratulated them!
What a colossal damage!
I see there is a big vacuum in knowledge in personal financial management - whether you are a Doctor, Engineer, Banker, CA, Software Professional, Businessman, there is no point in earning 7 figures every month, if you are going to run pillar to post at the end of the month to meet your needs.
So, I believe it’s my responsibility to educate my students on personal financial planning.
Everyone, when they start earning, should get this knowledge so that they plan right from their career beginning.
Even if you are in the mid-way, you should acquire knowledge on financial planning at least now and plan your remaining life to have financial stress free life.
Financial planning is a step-by-step approach to meet one’s life goals. A financial plan acts as a guide as you go through life’s journey. Essentially, it helps you be in control of your income, expenses, and investments such that you can manage your money and achieve your goals.
It is not just about increasing your savings and reducing your expenses. Financial planning is a lot more than that. This includes achieving your future goals.
