My goal in this course is to encourage and inform aspiring fiction writers by passing on information and techniques I've learned since 2008 when I began writing and self-publishing my ten-book Sonrise Stable series.
Although my books are Christian and about horses, good writing techniques are the same regardless of subject matter. Don't worry. I won't force anyone to write horse stories. In fact, I encourage students to write about what they love! When you're writing about things you enjoy, writing doesn't feel like a chore.
There's a lot of information packed into this course. First, the content is wholesome and family-friendly, making it suitable for aspiring writers of a variety of ages, from teen to adult. Encouraging and inspiring quotes from other authors reinforce the lesson topics. Videos cover software tools that make the writing and editing process easier. An entire section is devoted to writing Christian fiction - and what that even means!
Comprehensive course coverage includes story ideas if you're stuck for a topic, structuring the story/novel, character development, how to develop interesting dialog, various story elements, learning to welcome critiques, and how to edit and revise your own work.
Drawing from my experience of self-publishing since 2008, I give an overview of how to self publish, including factors to consider to make your book business profitable.
I don't believe there's any secret formula to becoming a successful author, no X number of steps to publishing success. But I believe, with study and practice, every motivated writer can improve. Students may approach this course in a variety of ways - whatever suits your learning style and current writing ability.
