Description

  • In this course you will learn:

  1. Key formulations for 2D, 3D beam elements in Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

  2. Two-node beam element and its formulations

  3. How to deal with complex 3D beam structures

  4. How to write FEM codes in MATLAB to analyse complex 3D beam structures

  5. How to write input files and run FEA in ANSYS

  6. How to calculate stress, strain in complex beam structures

  7. How to attract ANSYS results and make comparison between the results from your own FEM codes and ANSYS

  • During the course, you will conduct FEA for various beam structures in the following projects:

  1. Single cantilever beam.

  2. An L-frame.

  3. 2D roof structure.

  4. 3D roof structure.

  5. Frames of a 60 m high building.

  6. An offshore structure/ jacket platform.

  7. A 2D lattice structure with negative Poisson's ratio.

  8. A 3D lattice structure with negative Poisson's ratio (homework).

  9. Stress and strain calculations

About me: I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in the department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering of the University of Strathclyde. I received a Ph.D. in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. My research interests focus on Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI), Fracture Mechanics, Peridynamics, Fatigue, Corrosion, Machine Learning.
