Description

This Film will be useful for coaches and athletes - sabre fencers.

The film shows the most important techniques, actions and their combinations. As Such, they were selected from a large number available in sabre combat. Methodological recommendations are proposed for athletes and coaches. The training is conducted mainly on the basis of exercises between partners.

The film uses material from the training videos by Dr. David Tyshler, a legendary coach and scientist.  Their technical skills are demonstrated by world class fencers Martin Rensky and Mikhail Chernenok. Digital remastering of the film was done in 2021.

In the tactics of modern sabre fencing, three most frequently arising situations may be emphasised.

The first is characterised by mutual attempts at application of simple attacks following the referee’s command ‘Allez’. Here it is effective, but sufficiently difficult, to deflect an attempt at a cut. That is due to the fact that both fencers approach each other at maximum speed. Therefore, while expecting a countering attack, takes place an alternation of attempts at cuts arbitrarily to various sectors and use of attacks with cut to the weapon arm in order to pre-empt the opponent. Here it is essential to exercise control over continuous extension of the weapon arm and blade, in order not to lose the ‘right of attack’.

The second situation is the chase of the retreating opponent as a result of a combination of actions, starting with switching after a step forward to a series of steps forward and a lunge followed by an attack with cut to the opening sector, or a deflection of a counter-attack and execution of a riposte.

The third situation includes the lengthening of the starting phase of an approaching or attacking opponent by retreating within the conditions of maintaining a critical distance. Then, during the recovering by the opponent backwards, it is followed by a response attack, choosing the sector as the chase develops.

Our film will show the most important techniques, actions and their combinations. As such, they were selected from a large number available in sabre combat.
