This will help you study Honkyoku music. Some of the techniques appear in the Honkyoku from our courses. This video will help you go deeper in the basics of each technical element and help you play them correctly. Just be careful and follow the instructions and play the notes with the correct posture and fingering.
We will explain the different elements found in Honkyoku, such as mura iki and other technical terms and explain how to play them.
We have added. PDF with the course that will help you with a visual of the segments. Some explanations are also written on the pdf so that you can practice without having the video playing along.
You might want to do only one or two technical elements per study. We don't recommend going through all the videos in one time. So be sure to master each element or at least understand the key elements of it before moving on to the next part.
Some elements, such as Chiru are more found in the Do Kyoku as played by Katsuya Yokoyama and Watazumi-do.
Mura-iki, yuri, nayashi, kamuri, etc. are found in many schools. Technical elements are also used in modern music for special effects.
We also added the video on Repairing cracked bamboo flutes and also how to read and write Shakuhachi music
