What Is Mindfulness?

Accepting life and living in the present moment.

Paying attention to the present moment and taking time to see what is happening around you in a non-judgmental way, rather than focusing on the past or future, with total acceptance.

It involves being aware of each thought, feeling or sensation that comes to you and accepting it without involvement and non-judgmental way.

We are either in the past or thinking about the future and never in the present moment.  We are always repentant on the things done in the past and worried about our future. This is the main cause of stress and unhappiness.

The main cause of our suffering is our mind. Body is natural, soul is natural but mind is given by society through conditioning. When we are born our heart is strong, we are a soul whose characteristic is peace and happiness. But as we become older our head(mind) becomes strong and our heart becomes weak and we forget our soul. What is mind? Mind is nothing but the collection of thoughts, it is full of EGO, it is complex and ignorant, it has a lot of attachment.

Mind acts like a curtain and hides the soul. Because of this mind we are in stress, there is so much unhappiness in our life. If we can get rid of this mind and reach the ‘No-Mind’ state then we will be able to find and nourish our soul whose characteristic is peace and happiness which is eternal.

I would like to explain with the help of an analogy.

Take the example of a pond. When a pond is new, it contains clear water but as it gets older grass and dirt accumulate on the water and cut its contact from the sunlight. So, if we want clear water then we have to get rid of the dirt. If dirt is removed then the pond will have clear water and it will receive the sunlight.

Our soul is like clear water of a pond and mind is like dirt which prevents our contact from the supreme soul. If we want to nourish the soul then we have to get rid of the mind.

How to get rid of mind? By Mindful Meditation. By meditation we become thoughtless and egoless. We are then connected with our soul which characteristic is peace and happiness.
