Description

Sexual Violence, Rape and Exploitation

Foundational Awareness

As a victim of sexual violence the suffering is immense; shock, horror, self-loathing and self-hatred lead to a collapse of personhood as their world tumbles apart.  It can be an extraordinary experience to be the witness to a close family member or friend in the time after an event of Sexual Violence, Rape or Exploitation.  It is almost a surreal experience - trauma leads to soul loss and the mind can seemingly shut down - the body always remembers.

There is nothing more soul destroying than the experience of Sexual violence.  The title of this course can not be re-framed or dressed up to make the subject more palatable. There is nothing that can make the subject of this course more…  The aim of this course is to provide a foundation of learning for those with an interest in working, supporting and counselling those who have suffered the dire experience of sexual violence and rape.

Likewise you maybe a family member or friend of someone who has suffered this horrific and inhumane crime and want to be able to understand and support them as they go through the post-traumatic experience.

Internationally there is a huge need, a call for specialising therapists and counsellors into this area of human tragedy.  This course is for beginners to this subject and to build awareness of the issues surrounding the subject covered.  Gender does not discriminate when a person is subject to the inhumanity of sexual violence, rape and/or exploitation.

I ask you consider that if you have directly or indirectly experienced sexual violence, rape and exploitation that you make sure you have support as this course could trigger strong memories and emotions, and what I mean by indirectly is that you are witness of the aftermath of this horrendous crime.  This course also wishes to empower you with knowledge and I hope this will serve you well.

You may work in an organisation, private, public or voluntary, or considering creating your own support group, this course will give valuable information in helping you on your journey.  Know, that I, Deborah, you course instructor has encountered this experience personally and it has been a very difficult course to create as my own trauma resurfaced and I had to sit within a silent place and finally bring peace and forgiveness to my being; as a healing practitioner I know that this course has had to be produced for others as much as for myself.  If you feel at anytime overwhelmed then please take time away from the learning, sit outside in the sunshine and bring focusses attention to nature, invoke prayer and reconnect to your God, Creator, Divine.
