Description

Are you coaching children and looking to create fun and engaging sessions? Perhaps you are working with high-performance athletes and are looking to push the boundaries of excellence? Whatever your situation, as the coach you have an important role to facilitate learning in a range of different domains—that is, you are not just dealing with the physical skills of an athlete, but you also have a responsibility to consider your athletes' social, emotional, and cognitive needs, too. But where do you start with all this?!

What is this course about?

In this course, you will explore what it takes to get the best out of the people you work with by considering the idea that a coach is an educator. From there, you will be presented with a number of different coaching methods to make the most of your time with your athletes...regardless of the sport you are coaching!

Who am I?

My name is Dr. Blake Bennett, and I am both a coach and a researcher. I received my Doctoral degree from the University of Canterbury in 2015 and have been working in the sport industry as a researcher and a lecturer ever since. I have published multiple peer-reviewed articles on coaching, including specific topics like: online or ‘virtual’ coaching; child safeguarding; sport psychology; and coach development. In addition to my research, I also have over 20 years’ experience coaching kendo at both a regional and national level – whilst also having competed at a total of 6 world championship events.
