Substation Grounding

What You Will Learn!

  • Designing of AC substation grounding as per IEEE 80
  • Calculating Touch and Step Voltages
  • Sizing of the conductor and sketch the layout
  • Estimate the quantity of grounding conductors

Description

This Course deal with earthing of substation for protection of humans against electric shock . Engineers will learn how to design an Earth grid consisting of Vertical and horizontal conductors. They will learn the Step and touch voltage calculation, they will learn to prepare the earthing layout and size the earthing conductor. Distribution of fault current between earth grid and transmission line is explained. What all factor effect the earth resistance which can me modified is also explained . Few sample calculations are carried out so that engineers can understand the course practically and apply them when they carry out some design . The most common standard through out the word for substation design is IEEE 80 . This standard is used along with more than 200 research publication have been refereed to develop this training material after years of research. The various phenomenon like rise on ground potential is also explained. What happens during a fault is also explained. Difference between industrial and substation earthing is explained as mots engineers wonder why substation earthing is treated specially. Importance of adding gravel is explained many do not understand this and make mistakes in site engineering. The instructor has in the past design substation earthing system and taken inputs from various projects before developing this
