Description

T-shirts: You'll need blank T-shirts made of cotton or a cotton-blend fabric. The fabric should be pre-washed to remove any sizing or shrinkage.

Screens: These are usually made of mesh stretched over a frame. Screens are prepared with a stencil or design, and the mesh allows ink to pass through onto the T-shirt.

Squeegee: This is a tool used to push ink through the screen and onto the T-shirt. Ink: Specialized screen printing ink is used. The ink type depends on the fabric and the design's colors.

Emulsion and exposure unit: Emulsion is a photosensitive chemical applied to the screen. An exposure unit is used to expose the screen to UV light, hardening the emulsion where the design is, creating a stencil.

Printing press: This is the machine that holds the screen and T-shirt in place, allowing for precise printing.

  1. Design Creation: Create your design on a computer using graphic design software like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop. Ensure it's the right size and resolution for your T-shirt.

  2. Screen Preparation: Coat the screen with emulsion and let it dry. Then, place your design on the screen and expose it to UV light, creating a stencil.

  3. Setting Up the Printing Press: Attach the screen to the printing press and set up the T-shirt platen (a flat surface that holds the shirt).

  4. Printing: Place the T-shirt on the platen, ensuring it's smooth and flat. Position the screen over the shirt. Apply ink to the screen's top edge and use the squeegee to pull the ink across the design, pushing it through the mesh and onto the shirt. Repeat for each color in your design, allowing the ink to dry between each color layer.

  5. Curing: To make the ink permanent and wash-resistant, you'll need to cure it. This is usually done by applying heat to the printed T-shirts using a conveyor dryer or a heat press. The temperature and duration depend on the ink and fabric type.

  6. Cleanup: Clean the screen, squeegee, and other equipment thoroughly to prevent ink from drying and clogging the screen.

  7. Quality Control: Inspect the printed T-shirts for any imperfections or errors. Fix or discard any defective prints.
