Description

How well do you know your own government?

In this course, you'll get to the bottom of this question by exploring the governments' role in providing basic services, managing economic growth and safeguarding citizens' wellbeing. You'll also examine the role of policymaking in sustainable development and gain insight into the dynamic interface between government, business and civil society.

In Module 1, GIFT.ed Chairman, Chandran Nair and GIFT Managing Director, Eric Stryson, examine the crucial role played by the State in helping societies thrive. You will learn about the core functions of government, the three Principal Objectives of the State, and see why strong institutions and good governance are crucial for sustainable development in the years ahead.

In Module 2, we zoom in on China's political landscape. The country has one of the world's oldest and most extensive political systems, one that is often the centre of global media attention. But how well do you actually understand China's system, beyond the headlines?

Walking us through it is Professor Daniel Bell, Chair of Political Theory at the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law. He shares his views on China's political meritocracy and the importance of viewing different political systems with an open mind.
